THE OTHERS
© Leslie Blanchard
As referenced in my last post "That great new enemy that has emerged in our society THE OTHER. The USA of today is unrecognizable to me." I want to discuss these "others”, and see how the powers that be, try in every way to disunite the citizenry rather than to unite us. Who are these "powers that be"?
That is a tricky question. Politicians, the media, the heads of financial powers, the new world order, there are multitudes of groups and alliances that could be behind it. Or it could be that various different groups realized the truth that “United We Stand, Divided We Fall”. People who have noticed how we humans react instinctually to our tribe mentality.
Why? Another tricky question. Possible motives include and are not limited to New World Order domination, religion, money (like the Bible said the “want of money is the root of all evil” even though we have changed the words to Money is the root of all evil- the actual text is the “want of”) and that want causes division. Other reasons can be linked back to the tribe mentality. Hitler wanted a pure Aryan race. The KKK wanted everyone eliminated that wasn’t white, able-bodied, and male. Yes they have women in the Klan but for a long time women were just used as breeders by the Klan. And the last great motivator- FEAR. We are taught from a very early age to FEAR the other, the disparate. Like the old song says….
”You've got to be taught to hate and fear
You've got to be taught from year to year,
It's got to be drummed in your dear little ear
You've got to be carefully taught.
You've got to be taught to be afraid
Of people whose eyes are oddly made
And people whose skin is a different shade
You've got to be carefully taught.
You've got to be taught before it's too late
Before you are six or seven or eight
To hate all the people your relatives hate
You've got to be carefully taught. “
A very effective way to unite people in solidarity is to form an enemy, create an ‘us’ to defend against ‘them’. The Spanish Inquisition is a lesson in this example, the faithful against the heretic freethinkers (whom mostly happened to be women) that were burned at the stake because of misogyny , because they wouldn’t obey the male and preferred to spend their time with nature and animals which in the eyes of the Church made them heretics and witches.
People like myself who are gay were forced to wear pink triangles in Hitler’s camps and even still today we are regarded as a threat to the moral fiber of humanity.
The Jews have a long history of being hated. Before Hitler, before the holocaust. And anti-Semitism is alive and growing strong today.
As referenced in another blog post with the rampant violence in Mexico most illegal’s from Mexico are looking for safety and asylum as did many communist in the cold war days. It is gauche to blame the majority of Mexican folks that cross our border, while we are the market that the drug lords covet and especially when we also supply the guns that are being used to kill innocent civilians. The press, the politicians, the “patriots” that try to keep them out use them as a threat is to disorientate our society. “Look at what those “illegal’s” are doing to our country.” I wonder if the Iraqi people said the same thing? “Look at what these American occupiers are doing to our country?” After all we waged an illegal war in their homelands. Again- before you write me and call me names I support our troops, I want them home safely and as soon as possible. What I do not support is the policies that placed them at risk.
On 9/11, even me- a pacifist Buddhist wanted blood, retribution and revenge for what had been done to our country, our home, and our people. But I wanted the blood of the ones who planned and carried out the attack. I didn’t want the blood of innocent citizens-because in my eyes that makes us as bad as those that struck our innocent civilians.
When I found out that President Bush allowed a number of the Bin Laden family safe passage out of the US just days after 9/11, and found out about the Bush family tie to the Carlyle Group I had to reassess my views.
As for the war in Iraq which is being waged on money that we borrowed from China and Japan- that war in my heart is not a righteous war. We all know now that there were no WMD’s, no tie to Sadam and Bin Laden, no reason for us to have ever been there. Many people argue that Hussein carried out genocide against his people and to them I ask “What about Rwanda, Sudan, Darfur?” If our job is to be the big brother to the world (pun intended) then why didn’t we beat up the bullies committing those other genocides?
Most people don’t realize that every 3 days an active duty US service member completes suicide, that every single day 18 veterans of the Iraq/Afghan wars take their own life, that for every successful suicide there’s an estimated 10-15 failed attempts.

And now we are seeing the beginning of a class war in America. You’ve heard the talk…”Why should I pay for my neighbors house? I did everything right and they did everything wrong?” We are all Americans, and even though your neighbor may be a total slacker he is not to blame for this economic tsunami we are in. What got us here is the deregulating and cronyism of the past administration. The annual military budget for the US is almost 700 billion dollars. We have a current arsenal of over 10 thousand nuclear warheads which did nothing to deter an attack on US soil and which we spend 95 billion dollars a year to maintain and upgrade.
While most American families tightened their belts, the mega corporations made staggering and unprecedented profits, and we paid almost $5 at the pump for a gallon of gas. With the passage of the patriot act Americans lost a host of civil rights, a warrant is no longer needed for any citizen’s telephone conversation to be monitored, mail opened/read, or we could be labeled an illegal combatant and detained indefinitely. The healthcare system of the richest most powerful country in the world favors fat profits for big pharmaceutical and insurance companies over the heath of its citizens. All of the above serves to further separate us. Turn us into “others”.
Whoever is behind this destruction has primed the pump well. Hate has many forms, division and exclusion, are the most effective. The school system starts the cycle, it creates this division with grades, cliques and labels, acceptance or disgrace, and these marks stay with you for life. Either we're all Americans, or they are no Americans.
Nowhere in the constitution, does it state that our rights, or our citizenship depend on our education, or country club membership, that our citizenship has to be earned, won, or purchased. Nor does it state, that citizenship is sinless, or of one sex, race, religion, or creed. But someone is pulling our stings in order to divide and conquer.
Since the age of Joseph Raymond McCarthy, our once United Sates, has in essence divided from within by special interests for special privilege, to create a new slave class, and an American nobility. An Imperial Presidency. Much as our last Administration was.
As long as America is allowed a noble class, there will be a lesser class, a persecuted slave class, because you just can't have the one without the other. The constitution was put in place to protect us from this ever happening. Yet it is our own government, those that took an oath to uphold, protect and defend the constitution, that has created an industry of denying our humanity and inherent rights, to create their noble class.
Our rights are dependant on our titles, education, credit reports, blood, religion, and usefulness to the ruling class. Sounds like the same reasons we fought the British over 200 years ago doesn’t it.
It’s time to stand united again America and take our country back.
Peace

Most people don't examine history in a way that would help us move toward an enlightened future. It's good you're scrutinizing human and cultural behaviors in your posts.
If you have a link to your information about suicide in the military or a book, please share it because that's a topic for exmaination and discussion.
In one of my posts today I touched on some of these same issues as I discussed how sometimes people have a knee jerk response to any analogies using the Holocaust. I think that's a mistake.

I got the stats on the suicides from a CBS news report and also on CNN. Thank goodness for the pause botton! I'm sure I can find some on line sources...give me a couple of hours.

--AMEN. No one in the mainstream media will point to the true causes of our economic problems.
I definitely agree that fear of the other is systemic in our culture. It reminds me of what Cornell West says about Americans tending to look at minority groups as "problem people" instead of "people with problems."
