Hey Leslie, warm thanks to YOU for sharing your latest blog post. Like you I've become disheartened with our "democracy," or lack thereof in our country.

I believe the only hope we have is in enlightening our YOUNG and convincing them that the 2-party system of our government is NOT the best and most representative of our country's citizens. You and I may be too old (I'm 51) to bid adieu to the 2 party system, but our young can still HOPE and work their tireless asses off so that voting for our elected officials entails voting for the BEST and the BRIGHTEST instead of the lesser of two evils who are dictated by corporate interests.

I'm rambling so I'll end here but you get the gist.

I'm sorry about your health issues and have noticed your presence has lessened on Twitter, but it's not the quantity of your output that we value, it's the quality, my friend.

Leslie, I can see how you and others could be discouraged. Try to keep in mind that Obama saved our economy from the brink of collapse, and that had to be a priority. Corruption and government will always go hand-in-hand. It is more a matter of degrees. Were votes bought or bartered for Health Care? Sure, but that is how it works. What comes to my mind is the greater good. I find it appalling that millions in this country do not have any form of health care. What we get may not be exactly what we want, but it will be a start.

Thanks Damien . We seem always to see things pretty much the same way. I agree the present system is headed towards destruction. People can't seem to grasp that America is no longer a democracy. If we could restore democracy-I'm not sure at this point it would help.

Sometimes revolution is the most patriotic action.

Good post! I have a friend who - quite correctly in my view - classified mainstream Americans as (more or less) chicken-shit mice with their heads stuck in the sands. He provided a very good historical context in which he said this. Willful ignorance of history does a lot to engender such an inbred world view, and that applies here, to the issue of Mexico. It is in fact OUR problem as well. In addition to what you've lucidly and eloquently stated here, it is our problem also because regular Mexican citizens are just people who want to live their lives in peace - do we not have any empathy at all? Sadly, the older I get and the more I observe, this empathy for fellow humans is in danger of becoming extinct.

So those of us who have a clue that the other bipeds we see and hear about have actual feelings have to continue to speak!

Great post! I didn't vote for Obama - in fact, I didn't vote. I just KNEW we'd get MOTS (More Of The Same), although I really wanted to be wrong. I'm not sure the current system can ever be fixed. It may all have to come down and people need to start relying on smaller communities instead of Big Brother. Ideally, that would mean we could all visit the very learned and competent village doctor who is equipped to handle serious stuff like MS and COPD despite being the "village" doctor.

I'm the same way with my disability, as well as the "bad" stuff that has happened to me. If I weren't deaf, on social security disability, abused by my ex spouse, and subsequently abused by "the system", I'm afraid to think about how ignorant I might be today. All these things are part of my path and I will use them to my advantage as life lessons, as well as try to share what I've learned with the rest of my species.

"Why me?" is always best answered with "why NOT me?".

Thank you René. It is true that impatience is a plague on society. But most people have been trained to be that way. Propaganda broadcast to us 24/7. Vaccines, artificial sweeteners, fluoride, all chemicals designed to dumb us down. Perhaps my dis-eases have helped protect me from being dumbed down- if so I am forever glad.
